Colostrum use depends on calf condition, batch quality and the farm's veterinary plan. The two hours in the title should not be treated as a universal clinical rule for every herd and condition.
Link the batch to the calf
Record cow or milking ID, calf ID, birth and milking times, volume, any quality test with instrument and method, start of processing, container or lot and responsible person.
Follow the farm's veterinarian-approved instructions for immediate use, chilling, freezing and thawing. Add dispatch and arrival times, container, logger and storage location to the transport record.
If the batch does not match the planned use, or time/temperature data is missing or outside plan, segregate it. Appearance or one refractometer reading alone does not decide suitability.
Share the deviation and calf health record with the veterinarian; leave use, reprocessing or disposal to the product- and calf-specific veterinary protocol.
