More excursions in the final week do not by themselves show that performance changed. First compare run volume and the amount of usable data.

Add the denominator

For each week, record measured excursions and a suitable comparison unit, such as completed runs. Show the count beside the rate.

What may change at month end

  • Order or run volume may rise.
  • Vehicle, container or preparation capacity may differ.
  • Overtime and shift plans may change.
  • File downloads and record completion may decline.

Look for a trace in the data. Match each excursion to a run ID and count record coverage by week. If missing files are absent from the denominator, the rate may mislead. Review preparation or equipment data separately.

A trial for the calendar

Track a small trial of busy-week preparations, such as setting aside spare containers or assigning file downloads. Use the same measure before and after.

Keep the measure fixed

Compare weeks using one definition, calendar week or working days. Keep the denominator and missing-data method consistent too, and note any change.
