The legal basis for work in a frozen store is the risk assessment: Article 10 of Turkish Law 6331 requires the employer to carry it out and to take the protective gear from it. For a number, ACGIH is the usual guide. At -7 °C wind chill and below it recommends a warm-up regime for continuous work with a heated rest area nearby, and at -12 °C and below constant observation (supervisor or buddy), a pace that avoids sweating, and time for new workers to acclimatise. In a store at minus 18 to minus 25, air movement pulls the felt temperature below those values.

  • Layered clothing: damp clothing loses its insulation, so avoid a pace that makes people sweat.
  • Gloves: trial them with the scanner on site; a glove that cannot scan gets taken off.
  • Non-slip footwear: frost and ice on the floor are normal.
  • A door that opens from inside and a man-trapped alarm.

Placing frequently picked items near the door and sequencing picks like a route shortens time in the cold without buying equipment. Moving the items to be picked into an insulated volume in the anteroom also cuts door openings. Write the task, entry and exit times, breaks and any unusual event in the shift log.
