A container number helps only when the same ID is used in issue and maintenance records. Start with a simple inventory ledger and verify it with a physical count.

Assign a unique ID. Give each container a distinct readable ID. Choose a location on the body that remains visible when stacked; enter model, status and initial location in inventory.

Record movements

At issue, enter ID, customer, date and quantity; at return, record receipt date and condition; for repair, enter defect and work order number. Do not confuse group tracking with individual IDs.

Resolve count differences

Reconcile a physical count with the ledger. Check customer sites, depot, wash area and repairs separately, then trace apparently missing containers from their last movement entry.
