Reserve need is not a fixed percentage; it is the simultaneous gap in available units. For each shift, record units required, ready containers on hand, and deliveries awaiting completion.
Tag every unit unavailable through fault, damage, washing, drying, maintenance, or depot transfer with its serial ID and start and end times. Track lost container-days or shift time, not just fault counts.
Review historical peak-demand days and calculate how many units were unavailable at once. Compare rentals, shift changes, or alternative workflows for any capacity gap using dated prices and feasibility information.
Which customers or routes to protect and how much disruption is acceptable are management decisions. Review reserve quantity against that threshold; plan plates and accessories in separate compatibility and availability records.
