The trolley that takes a full vessel from the milking parlour to the chiller and on to the vehicle crosses wet floors, thresholds and ramps dozens of times a day. That is why the choice comes down to four points.

  1. Washability: the trolley must take a pressure wash. Milk residue collects mostly in castor bearings, so bearings should be sealed or the castors removable.
  2. Corrosion: milk and detergent together are aggressive; washing frequency and the chemical used decide the body material.
  3. Floor: on wet floors sloping towards drains, small castors catch in the channel. On ramps and inside a vehicle at least two castors need brakes.
  4. Load: the limit is set by the base and castors, and a full vessel must not shift while moving.

A churn on an open hand trolley is jolted at every threshold. In a closed container with castors fixed to the body, the load stays put: the 410-795 litre models of the GEBHARDT Isotec TBX carry 500 kg on 125 mm swivel and fixed castors, can be cleaned with a pressure washer or in a washing line, and keep water out of the insulation.

Before buying, measure door width, threshold height and ramp slope. If the trolley will ride in a vehicle, plan the securing points as well, because an unsecured wheeled load tips over on the road.
