Fresh produce remains metabolically active after harvest, but transport effects vary by product and package. One respiration figure does not represent an entire category.

At receipt, record produce type and cultivar, harvest or lot code, maturity information, supplier instructions and package type. If pre-cooling occurred, include the method and completion measurement.

Compare openings in vented or closed packaging with the maker's design; check whether loading blocks them. Verify ventilation needs against product information and do not assume insulation alone is sufficient.

Document sensor point, instrument, time and load arrangement in storage or vehicle. Link wilting, condensation, odour or bruising observations to lot and location; do not infer a cause from one ambient reading.

Assess mixed loads, co-storage or container choice using product instructions and trial evidence. Revisit validation with quality when cultivar, packaging or route changes.
