Forensic-sample transport should begin with case instructions from the requesting authority and laboratory. Do not assume one universal form or temperature rule for chain of custody.
Prepare the case record
Before dispatch, verify case/sample ID, requested test, acceptance conditions, packaging, sealing step, transport and storage instructions. If temperature control is required, take limits from the relevant test/product document.
At each handover, record timestamp, sender/receiver, container and seal number, package condition and location. If using a logger, link device ID, sensor position and raw file to the case record.
If a seal breaks, delay occurs or a record is missing, secure the sample and notify the case lead and laboratory without altering evidence. Obtain written acceptance and next-step direction from the authorised unit.
