For packaging data, first list the physical items in a shipment, then label the source of each value.
Fields for the first table
Item: separate components such as pallet, carton, label, film or transport carrier.
Material and unit weight: distinguish supplier documentation from your own weighing.
Use: single-use, declared recycled content or returnable; attach the evidence.
Source and version: document name, measurement date, supplier and change date.
Sample one shipment
Weigh the packaging component, not the packed product; record quantity and unit on the same row.
Check that pallet tare or goods inside the packaging have not been included in the weight.
If you weigh several examples of one item, record each result and scale resolution, not just one value.
If material is uncertain, ask the supplier for a technical declaration; do not infer polymer or recycled share from appearance.
Leave an unverified field blank and assign an owner to resolve it.
Track reusable-carrier data separately
Match carrier ID to dispatch and return records; do not calculate rotations from outbound counts alone.
Keep loss, damage, repair and retirement events separate from return counts.
For example, if a carrier revisits a customer, check earlier dispatch IDs and whether the empty return was recorded.
Update the table when packaging changes or a supplier changes; archive the prior document for traceability.
When a customer or report requests data, extract it for the relevant scope; this table alone is not a legal declaration.
