Cross-dock cost is not one line; define it by product flow, facility, and measurement period. Choose pallet, shipment, or order as the unit and use it consistently as the denominator.

Use shift schedules and observed processing for labour time; gate and dock timestamps for waiting; movement records for handling; invoices or contracts for space and software costs.

Compare with the current storage-based method over the same unit and period. Count reduced space or waste as savings only where a realised, documentable difference exists; include added transfer work, appointments, and system costs.

Divide total costs by the chosen number of operations and state excluded items. Update with actual records after a pilot; do not present another facility's cost ratio or projected benefit as a local result.
