A reusable container’s status under inward processing cannot be determined automatically from the goods flow. Confirm procedure, document type and declaration fields with your broker for the actual transaction.

Identify the item first

Record model, serial/asset ID, ownership and intended reuse.

Keep purchase or lease records alongside ownership information.

Build a movement trail

Link entry, use, product association, exit and return dates to shipment IDs.

Add a transaction or permit reference only after broker confirmation.

Match the paperwork. Compare invoice, transport document, draft declaration and container inventory descriptions; verify the same container ID is retained throughout.

Reconcile quantities without substituting equipment counts for goods quantities.

Get transaction-specific confirmation

Send the broker an example container, ownership details and planned round trip, then ask which procedure applies. General guidance is not a ruling for every regime and item.

File the reply with the draft and supporting documents it addresses.

Damage or loss. Record and document the event separately in the asset inventory; do not assume its waste, tax or regime consequence.

Reconcile. At period end, compare physical count with entry/exit records and raise discrepancies with the broker.

File the evidence

Keep declaration copies, shipment evidence and written confirmation together; verify current filing and retention duties against applicable rules.
