Year-end inventory becomes difficult when the team ordering packaging and the team preparing declarations use different material and quantity data. Build the record from purchasing codes.
Identify each packaging item. Keep stock code, packaging material, unit weight, quantity used and the product it serves. Check unit weight against supplier specifications or a sample weighing.
Confirm the declaration role separately
Who places packaging on the market and which items fall within a declaration depend on the business's supply and sales arrangement and current rules. Being a user alone may not determine liability.
Track returnable-container movements
For returnable containers, record receipts, dispatches, losses and repairs. Do not assume reuse automatically exempts an item from declaration or contribution; verify against current official text and your business role.
Review purchasing data
At period end, compare packaging purchases with actual use and stock movement. Document differences; do not present an estimate as a verified measurement.
Check classification before filing
Before classification or filing, check current rules with an accountant or environmental compliance specialist. Consistent material codes show which product and supplier records to review if a correction is needed.
