When a damaged container arrives, treat its condition and the goods' condition as separate observations. Record what is visible and identify the goods first; refer acceptance, rejection or release to the site's authorized quality process.

Record the first observations

  1. Photograph the container ID and visible damage before moving it.
  2. Note case IDs and their known positions inside the container.
  3. Record packaging damage separately from product measurement findings.
  4. If a measurement is required, record the device, time and result using the site's defined method.

Packaging findings and product disposition differ

Crushed packaging can be observed; product suitability depends on the applicable product specification, measurement method and quality assessment. Do not automatically accept an intact-looking case or reject an entire load because its container is damaged.

Keep case order linked to IDs

Match each unloaded case to a record ID and its original position. A later review can then show which goods relate to each observation.

Hold goods under review

Keep affected goods in the location defined by the site's hold procedure and record their movement. Refer acceptance or release to the authorized quality role.

Match three fields in the notice

Send the container and case IDs, number of cases separated, and relevant measurement records to the sender. Link photo IDs to the report and follow the contract or notice procedure for communication.
