Global refrigeration percentages can create false comparisons when scope and denominator are omitted. When using an IIR brief, check the indicator definition on the original report page; do not repeat a headline rate without opening the source.

Fix the report metadata

The IIR's 2025 announcement attributes 20% of global electricity use and 7.5% of CO2 emissions to the refrigeration sector, including food and health cold chains, air conditioning, cryogenics and heat pumps. Record the edition date, indicator, geographic scope, denominator and data year; do not attribute these shares to the cold chain alone.

Do not transfer global data to a site. A world total does not describe the consumption of a particular vehicle, warehouse or passive-container system. For a local calculation, use meter and fuel records, load, route and declared boundaries; report the same activity scope.

Check the source statement. If the IIR publication does not clearly support a figure, omit it and use only verified qualitative context. Cite the report title and edition; do not turn estimates into a product-savings promise.
