How many watts of cooling does a cold room need?

Base cooling watts on product intake, door traffic and operating conditions as well as room size.

Short answer

For heat load, assemble room and panel dimensions, ambient conditions, door openings, lights and fans, people load, and incoming product quantity and condition. Record units and peak-period assumptions for each input. Have a qualified designer calculate capacity from these data; do not derive watts from room volume alone.

Cold-room capacity cannot be selected from cubic volume alone. Heat through panels, door traffic and product cooling change the load.

Collect internal and external dimensions, insulation details, ambient conditions, door-opening pattern, lighting, fans and people traffic. State incoming product quantity and condition separately.

Give the designer inputs with units and peak-day assumptions. Check the calculated load against operating records; have a qualified specialist confirm capacity and equipment selection.
