Wall thickness alone does not determine a container's insulation performance or how long product stays suitable. First calculate its effect on usable capacity and vehicle fit.
Which dimension stays fixed?
If external dimensions stay fixed, subtract twice the wall thickness from internal width, length and height. If internal dimensions stay fixed, add twice the wall thickness to the external dimensions. This geometry shows whether the unit fits shelving, pallets and vehicle clearances.
Also check empty weight, lid opening and access when stacked on the quotation drawing. Handling needs can change as thickness increases; confirm load limits from the catalogue.
For thermal comparison, ask your supplier for the test conditions: product or test load, starting state, ambient conditions, lid openings and measurement point. Do not directly compare stated hold times when those conditions differ.
Put both internal and external dimensions and the fixed dimension on the request form. This lets you assess the space and capacity trade-off separately from a thermal-performance claim.
