Most crates standing side by side in a warehouse have a 600 x 400 mm base, and that is a standard, not imitation. ISO 3394:2012 sets the dimensions of rigid rectangular transport packages on the 600 x 400, 600 x 500 and 550 x 366 mm modules, defined together with the four pallet plans of ISO 3676 (1219 x 1016, 1200 x 1000, 1200 x 800 and 1100 x 1100 mm).
| Pallet | Container | Count | Fill |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1200 x 800 | 600 x 400 | 4 | 100% |
| 1200 x 1000 | 600 x 500 | 4 | 100% |
| 1200 x 1000 | 600 x 400 | 5 | 100% |
| 1200 x 800 | 560 x 380 | 4 | 89% |
In the five-container pattern two lie flat and three are turned. The last row is an off-module example: a 560 x 380 mm crate also fits four, but about a tenth of the area travels empty on every layer.
In an insulated container wall thickness shrinks the inner volume, while the outer base decides the pallet pattern. Compare two containers by outer dimensions as well as inner volume; you can ask Aris Makina for container dimensions. For returnable boxes, ISO 18616-1:2016 rests on the same modules and their subdivisions.
