The number of containers at the depot does not show dispatch-ready capacity. Code containers with customers, in washing, under maintenance or unlocated separately; link every measure to a container ID, trip and timestamp.

Six measures and their calculations

  1. Utilisation: container-days on loaded trips during the period / container-days available for dispatch in that period. 2. Turnaround: hours from dispatch until clean, dry, inspected and dispatch-ready; report the median and 90th percentile separately. 3. Temperature-excursion trips: recorded trips above the written limit / all recorded trips.
  2. Late returns: containers past the agreed return date / containers due back in the period; report losses separately. 5. Wash-to-release: time from dirty receipt to cleaning and drying approval. 6. Maintenance unavailability: container-days under maintenance / total fleet container-days scheduled for the period. Keep period and status definitions fixed for each measure.

Break rates down by useful groups such as product and route. Low utilisation alone does not prove over-purchasing; review seasonal peaks and reserve needs too. Do not invent targets for the first report: check record quality and establish a baseline across several periods, then set targets with the service level.
