Crate choice cannot be judged by empty weight and volume alone. Observe the actual load alongside grip, reach, lift height and how often the task is repeated.
Measure the task during a shift
Weigh the full crate and note how the goods are distributed. Record where the worker grips it, how far and to what height it is moved, and repetitions per shift. Include conditions such as wet floors, narrow passages and solo work in the risk assessment.
Trial alternatives on the same task
Compare a smaller crate, trolley or lifting aid with the same goods and workstation. Track lift count, reach, pushing or pulling and worker feedback. Do not set the rule by weight alone; follow local workplace-safety requirements and a qualified assessment.
Add full-load mass, grip method, stacking and compatible handling aids to the purchasing specification. Confirm the heaviest intended use with the supplier.
