Export recorder archives and test restoration

Name trip files with identifiers, keep an independent backup and verify that a sample file can be restored.

Short answer

After each trip, export device data and link the file to trip, lot, device and date IDs. Keep a backup separate from the main archive and periodically restore a sample to a clean location, checking that it opens and preserves timestamps and integrity. Set retention and deletion periods from contract and applicable requirements.

A recorder's memory is not an archive. Export trip data regularly, make it searchable by ID and test whether the backup can be restored.

Link files to trips

Keep trip, lot, device, date and route details in the filename or linked record. Preserve the raw export unchanged.

Create two storage copies

Use a separate backup location outside the main archive, with access and permissions defined. Choose cloud or local storage under company procedure.

Test an actual restoration

Restore a sample file from backup into a clean folder or test system. Verify that it opens and that timestamps, file size and transfer record are retained.
