HFCs do not harm the ozone layer, but some are strong greenhouse gases, with global warming potentials from 12 to 14,000. That is why the parties to the Montreal Protocol added HFCs to the controlled substances in Kigali in 2016.
| Year | Cut (against the 2020-2022 baseline) |
|---|---|
| 2024 | Freeze |
| 2029 | 10% |
| 2035 | 30% |
| 2040 | 50% |
| 2045 | 80% |
The table is the schedule of the developing-country group that follows the same 2024-2045 line as Türkiye. In Türkiye, labelling, quotas and leak checks fall under the Regulation on Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases. As the cuts narrow the amount of gas on the market, write the gas type and charge quantity on each unit's card. A passive box with eutectic plates holds no refrigerant, so it stays outside this schedule.
