The plate fitter may close the lid too; shipment risk and site procedure determine role separation.
Checking your own work
The same operator should check plate ID, rail seating and lid closure against the instruction.
Consider a second check
- A load with more than one product or plate type.
- A new operator or someone newly assigned to the task.
- A run where an error could affect product, records or delivery decisions.
- Tasks where the customer or site procedure calls for another check.
Choose a second check under the site risk assessment and customer procedure.
When a second check may not be needed
For routine work, first review the procedure and error records.
Write the split into instructions. Instructions should specify plate code, rails, lid, record and, if needed, approving role.
Measure the workload
Record check time and errors during a pilot, then adapt steps to the team.
The checker records results, findings and verified steps on the form.
Clarify ownership. The assigned role checks; it need not be a supervisor.
