A reusable container can make economic sense only if it returns, is cleaned and remains suitable for reuse. First identify options that meet the product and route requirements.

Actual cost per trip

For each container, log ID, dispatch and return dates, completed trips, cleaning and inspection, repairs and loss. Divide reusable costs by completed acceptable trips; for single-use, include container and waste-handling costs over the same period. Use your own records instead of estimates.

Compare both options against the same route, load, delivery and product-protection criteria. Include empty-container return, cleaning capacity and replacement needs when units are missing.

Even without product contact, packaging suitability and reuse conditions for medicine shipments need manufacturer evidence and institutional quality approval. If cleaning, damage or temperature history is uncertain, remove the unit from the pool and refer reuse to the responsible quality team.
