A single total can misstate the effect of waste. Link each return, disposal, reshipment, or unfilled sale to date, product or lot, quantity, customer, and event reason.
Product cost, collection or disposal expense, and reshipment may come from different records. Name the source document or system for each and check that one event is not counted in both waste and returns.
If claiming a lost sale, distinguish unavailable stock from demand that was actually unmet. Do not call gross sales value a saving; confirm the contribution calculation method with finance.
Compare results by product, route, and period. Assess an equipment quote against measured costs in the relevant product flow and clearly stated calculation assumptions, not an unsupported total-loss claim.
