How to connect aquaculture harvest planning to logistics

Record harvest windows, lot size and container turnaround to calculate equipment needs.

Short answer

Do not assume aquaculture means fixed or uniform production. By farm and species, record planned and actual harvest dates, daily volume, size distribution, first-chilling point and buyer. Measure transport, washing and return-to-ready time for a lot. Size container needs from overlapping peak harvest days and available turns.

The Ministry's calendar-year 2025 bulletin reports aquaculture at 626,591 tonnes, up 8.6% from 2024: 440,817 tonnes marine and 185,774 inland. National annual growth does not show an individual farm's harvest dates or lot sizes.

Link harvest windows to lots

By farm, species and buyer, record planned and actual harvest day, daily quantity, size distribution, first-chilling point and vehicle time. Use differences to revise the next harvest plan.

Account for container turnaround

Measure trip, receipt, washing and return-to-ready times. Check whether the same containers are needed simultaneously on peak harvest days. Size the fleet from peak overlap and turnaround, not tonnage divided by catalogue capacity.
