Not everyone on a team does every task. Experience in plate preparation, loading, goods-in checks, wash checks and deviation records is often unwritten.

Two axes

Put people in rows and jobs in columns. Use three cell states.

Find a gap with an example

If a task has two independent workers and one learner, check the shift when both independent workers are on leave. If coverage is missing, training priority or task allocation becomes a concrete gap to address.

Update triggers

A new starter, task change, observed new skill or departure can trigger a review. Record the responsible person and review date at the interval set by the workplace.

Who fills it in

The authorised supervisor updates it against defined task criteria and observed practice. Workers should be able to see the record and request a correction.

Link to training. Rank blank or supported cells by task risk and shift need. For each, record who will train and how practice will be observed.

Limits of the matrix

A matrix alone does not make a task safe or authorise a person. Current work instructions, training and the workplace authorisation process govern.

Using it when hiring

Task columns that remain uncovered help describe the experience needed in recruitment.
