The receiving decision should use a measurement method suited to the product and contractual procedure. Surface, between-package, and product-core readings answer different questions.
Choose the method first
Use an infrared thermometer for surface screening. If the product core must be measured, follow the probe method in the procedure.
Record the sample and instrument
Note lot number, product, sample location, instrument ID, calibration status, time, and result. Let the receiving instruction define sample locations.
Compare the result
Assess the reading against current product specifications and the parties’ agreed acceptance method. Do not use a surface scan alone to reject or release a lot.
