The outside of an ice pack does not tell you whether it is frozen: a hard surface, frost or a shaking sound does not show that the whole filling is solid. GEBHARDT's criterion is clear: the filling must be completely frozen and solidified before use.
Acceptance criterion and preparation. GEBHARDT wants the freezer at least 5 °C below the melting point of the plate and an air gap kept between plates; the recommended values are -8 °C for a -3 °C plate, -26 °C for a -21 °C plate, and 24 hours (plate paper, plate table). For an opaque pack, clarify the checking method and preparation cycle through Aris Makina.
A batch-check worksheet
| Input | Check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Model and label | Are the matching preparation instructions available? | Separate unidentified packs |
| Freezer and rack | Do load and air gaps match the verified arrangement? | Reassess a changed layout |
| Entry time and record | Was the cycle interrupted or partly unknown? | Do not accept incomplete preparation evidence |
| Acceptance criterion | Has the model's readiness condition been met? | Record the decision and checking method |
When time has elapsed but conditions changed. If warm packs were added, airflow gaps closed or preparation conditions are unknown, do not release the batch on elapsed time alone; keep ready, preparing and awaiting-check packs apart. An opaque shell is not punctured for a check, and leaking, swollen or damaged packs stay out of prepared stock.
