The Deposit Packaging (DOA) system has applied in 973 districts of 81 provinces since 1 July 2026. It is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and run by the Turkish Environment Agency; consumers receive 1 TL for each returned plastic, glass or aluminium beverage package, up from 25 kuruş in the pilot provinces.
The scope is single-use PET, glass and aluminium beverage packaging of 0.1 to 3.10 litres; returnable transport containers fall outside that definition. Businesses selling deposit beverages, and HOREKA, register at dbys.gov.tr and choose the field operator they work with. Markets, grocers and kiosks act as return points and hand the collected packaging to that operator.
The back yard therefore has two separate flows: deposit packaging goes to the field operator, and returnable transport containers go to the supplier or pool. Keeping the two flows in separate areas with separate labels prevents mix-ups.
