Use an EcoVadis assessment in supplier decisions

Do not treat a score as product certification or a rating for every legal entity. Check scope, date and current evidence.

Short answer

Ask the supplier for a current EcoVadis scorecard or assessment summary showing the assessed legal entity and scope. Check the date, score or medal details and improvement areas; do not present it as product certification or your own company’s assessment. If a tender sets a criterion, confirm the buyer’s accepted evidence format.

An EcoVadis result describes an assessment of a defined company; it is not a product certificate. First verify which company was assessed.

Request current evidence from the supplier

Request a current shareable scorecard. Match legal entity, date and activities in scope to the bid file; a group result does not automatically cover its subsidiary.

Interpret the result within its scope. Confirm the buyer’s required score, period and evidence format. Do not use the result as product conformity or your own ESG data; record improvement areas and follow-up.
