How gastronorm pans fit inside a container

A GN 1/1 pan measures 530 × 325 mm. How many go into a container follows from its interior width and depth; handle and shelf allowance come from the drawing.

Short answer

A GN 1/1 pan measures 530 × 325 mm (EN 631-1) and is compared with the container interior on its rim size. The Isotec TBX 725 has a 604 × 809 mm interior, so two GN 1/1 fit on a shelf; the TBX 900, at 611 × 1025 mm, takes three. Handle and shelf allowance come off this count from the drawing.

The 530 × 325 mm of a GN 1/1 pan is its rim size under EN 631-1; on models with handles these can project beyond it. Fit in a container is worked out by comparing this size with the interior width and depth.

The remaining margin goes to the handles, the shelf rails and keeping the pan from moving in transit. Deep pans (100-200 mm) hold more food but widen the shelf spacing, while shallow pans give more shelves.
