Different readings do not automatically mean a device has failed. First check position, measured object, contact method and timing differences.
Verify device and probe details
Record ID, calibration status, probe type, operating range and clock setting. State the difference if one reading is from a display and the other from a logged trace.
Compare under matched conditions
Place both sensors close together at the same point, using the same method and timing. Apply a consistent wait according to device instructions and note ambient conditions, product contact and lid state.
Escalate a persistent difference
Record results with device IDs and conditions. Use the reference instrument specified in procedure or send devices for verification and calibration; refer unexplained differences affecting product decisions to quality.
