Cold-room volume is not equal to the number of stock positions that can be used safely. Plan capacity from peak stock and real shelf positions that maintain suitable conditions.

Profile demand over time

Use inventory records to identify daily and concurrent peak pallet demand by product group and period.

Separate quarantine, returns, receiving, and dispatch staging from normal stock.

Count qualified positions

Maintain rack, aisle, and equipment clearances under manufacturer and warehouse procedures.

Count only positions supported by temperature-mapping evidence.

Calculate and test the gap

Compare peak demand with qualified positions to identify a shortfall.

When density changes, reassess monitoring and placement with the quality team.

Update the capacity plan as inventory and temperature records change.
