A file may begin midway through a run. If its first reading follows loading, distinguish a measurement gap from a late start.
Possible reasons for a late start
- The device may have stayed outside the container during loading.
- A start delay may be longer than the preparation period.
- The device may have been started in the warehouse and placed in the container later.
Match the times
Compare the first timestamp with loading and departure records. Device clock, time zone and download time differ; check the clock setting and file time basis.
If the first hour is absent, loading temperatures cannot be reconstructed from the later curve. Keep run documents; do not present the gap as a measured normal value.
Check the sequence and setting. Observe the start and placement steps. If the model supports a start delay, compare it with the manual and record the setting on the departure list.
Measure recurrence. Compare first readings with planned starts on the same time basis. If the gap continues, check placement, starting and download separately.
The start-delay setting
The model and setting affect when a sample appears. Record the setting and check it against the first sample; do not assume a default.
