What ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation shows for calibration

Accreditation is limited to a laboratory's scope; match the instrument, quantity, range and method to its scope schedule.

Short answer

ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation is a framework for laboratory competence; it does not say every calibration must be accredited. Check the customer, regulatory or contract requirement. If required, verify that the laboratory's current scope covers the instrument type, measurement range and method.

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the current standard for laboratory competence, impartiality and consistent operation; accreditation bodies use it as assessment criteria. TÜRKAK uses TS EN ISO/IEC 17025 for calibration and testing laboratory accreditation. Scope remains activity-specific.

If accreditation is requested, check the laboratory's current scope schedule alongside the report. Match measurand, method, range, laboratory location and accreditation mark; do not treat out-of-scope work as accredited.

Identify the source of the request: customer term, contract or a specific legal provision. If none applies, assess accreditation for internal monitoring against risk, measurement purpose and cost; do not assume it is mandatory.
