Container cost is not simply purchase price divided by an assumed lifetime. Use actual trip records to include purchase and accessories, washing and labour, losses, maintenance, and empty returns.

For the same product, customer, and route, derive the current packaging cost from invoices and labour. Find the per-trip net difference by subtracting container-related variable costs from the alternative cost; accumulated difference against the investment is the business's recovery measure.

Include avoided waste or returns only when event records support the link. Do not treat gross product value as savings; confirm the cost or contribution method with finance.

Update actual use, maintenance, loss, and trip counts over time instead of relying on estimates. Report results with the product flow and assumptions; do not transfer another operation's trip threshold.
