Although the sea leg may be scheduled, port, discharge and customs dwell can vary. Do not assume current duration or power access is guaranteed.

Confirm power and responsibility. Ask the carrier in writing about waiting area, power connection, reefer allocation and monitoring access. Define who acts and who communicates if service is interrupted.

Add dwell to the timeline

Record terminal arrival, discharge, customs release and delivery times at each handoff. Link logger data to cargo and container identity.

Choose a contingency in advance

Plan a controlled store, local contact and approval process if delay occurs or power is unavailable. Do not automatically continue if product conditions cannot be maintained.

Clarify contract terms. Agree dwell, charges, transfer of responsibility and notification arrangements in writing. Verify the relevant contract and policy rather than assuming Incoterms or insurance coverage.
