Choosing between a laboratory trolley and insulated container depends on the specimen's analyte and lab acceptance instructions. One temperature or transport method cannot be assumed for all specimens.
Obtain acceptance instructions
Verify container type, label, transport conditions, holding limits and acceptance criteria with the laboratory for each specimen or analyte. Ask the owner about unclear points before collection.
Trial both transport arrangements
Check a shelved trolley and closed carrier on route for stability, breakage, spills, access and physical separation of specimens. Include outdoor exposure or waiting if relevant.
Complete the handoff trail
Record specimen code, collection time, carrier, department, delivery time and condition observations. If a logger is required, link its ID, location and file to the specimen.
