The transport method depends on specimen type and analysis instructions. Do not assume one temperature, coolant layout or transport class applies to every specimen.
Get written instructions from the laboratory
Confirm packaging layers, temperature conditions, delivery time and acceptance criteria from the collection kit or laboratory protocol. Determine from those instructions whether a separator is needed between coolant and specimen.
Trial the container with the same specimen type and expected route duration. Place the logger where the laboratory specifies; record packing, collection and laboratory receipt times. Do not place coolant in direct contact with the specimen unless the protocol expressly requires it.
Include specimen ID, sender and recipient, timestamps, package integrity and logger result in the handoff record. If the specimen is classified as biological or dangerous goods, follow current transport instructions and an authorised specialist for packing and labels.
In case of a temperature excursion or delay, leave acceptance or disposal decisions to the laboratory and specimen owner.
