A plate may need attention as a container is emptied. Do not assume who owns it or where it goes; confirm the goods-in step from the shipment instruction, contract or site procedure.

Three possible arrangements

  1. The plate stays in the container and returns with it.
  2. The plate is removed and handed back separately.
  3. The consignee keeps the plate; later use depends on the local arrangement.

Make the arrangement visible in a record. State the agreed option for each shipment in its instruction or agreed record. The clerk can then see what to do during unloading and where the plate should be handed over.

Trace the plate handover

Record the container and plate IDs, date and time, handing-over and receiving roles, and destination. If the handover is incomplete, name the follow-up owner as an open task.

The goods-in clerk's step. The clerk removes the plate or leaves it in the container according to the stated instruction, then records what happened. If no instruction is available, ask the responsible person before placing it elsewhere or assigning it for reuse.

Record the transfer route

Define how the plate moves from goods-in to its destination in the site's workflow. Record any intermediate point or carrier used; report a route change to the responsible person.
