Opening a goods-in record does not release the goods; track status and physical location together until a decision is made.

Define three states

StateRecord and location
Received, decision pendingPending status; marked area
QuarantinedQuarantine status; segregated location
ReleasedApproved stock record; normal warehouse

Keep the hold visible. Record container/lot ID, supplier record, finding and opening time.

Keep pending goods in the SOP's stated area and preserve product-required conditions.

Update system status; exclude the goods from available-order totals.

Quarantine decision

Send a suspected nonconformity or measurement difference to the quality owner.

Check the site SOP for authority to quarantine and apply a quarantine tag.

While a decision is pending, do not route the goods to normal shelving or dispatch.

Decision and record closeout

Record the authorized decision, reason, time and owner.

Move to released stock only when the acceptance criterion is met and approval is logged.

Measure hold time from opening to closure; review authority and communication when delays recur.
