What insurance pays after a chilled-load loss depends on policy wording and the circumstances. A general cargo label does not prove that temperature-related loss is automatically covered. Before dispatch, review the policy, endorsements and certificate together.
Questions for the broker or insurer
Ask in writing how temperature excursion, refrigeration failure and power loss are treated; what deductibles or sub-limits apply; and what pre-cooling, recordkeeping and claim-notice conditions apply. Match the declared route, goods, carrier and packaging to your shipment. Confirm the answer against the policy endorsement.
Preserve the evidence chain when an event occurs. Keep lot and seal IDs, loading and arrival readings, logger file, vehicle alarms, event timeline and photographs. Record who was notified and when. Before handling the goods, check any survey or inspection requirement in the policy and notify the insurer promptly.
Assemble the claim file
Link invoice and quantity records, transport document, policy number, measurement files and correspondence by lot ID. Only the policy and investigation establish cover or liability; operations staff should hold affected goods and follow the food-safety procedure.
