Transport conditions for an artwork depend on its materials, current condition and loan requirements. Do not assume a universal temperature or humidity range.
Condition and custody record
Before packing, record the object ID, existing marks, packing materials and dated photographs. Add crate ID, logger serial number and sensor position to the form.
Transfer the lender’s or conservator’s written requirements into the transport plan. At every handover record time, place, sender and receiver, and packaging condition. Include waiting and storage points in the route record.
After condensation, impact or new damage, document the crate and object as found; preserve custody records and logger data. Let the collection owner or conservator direct opening, acclimatisation and treatment.
