How to secure a wheeled transport container on a ramp

Assess slope, load and brake equipment on site; follow manufacturer instructions and the risk plan.

Short answer

Before leaving a container on a ramp, check slope and surface, loaded weight, wheel brakes and manufacturer limits. Do not rely on brake feel alone; use the chock or restraint method in the site risk assessment. Do not leave it unattended. If secure restraint is unavailable, move it to level ground and notify the shift lead.

Wheeled racks can present push-pull, overturning, trapping and tail-lift fall hazards; slopes and uneven surfaces add risk. UK HSE guidance recommends help on ramps and suitable wheel maintenance; it is not a local site rule.

At shift start, check brake engagement, wheels and floor condition, load arrangement and restraint equipment. Mark damaged components and report them for service.

Do not leave a container unattended on an incline. If the restraint method or surface is unsuitable, move it to level ground and record the event and corrective action.
