How to separate a temperature excursion from a product decision

Log an alarm as an event; base product suitability on specification, time and location evidence.

Short answer

An excursion is a measurement outside the defined product or route criterion; alone it does not establish that the product is affected or unusable. Verify device ID, calibration, sensor position, timestamps and events. Segregate the lot and preserve raw data; have the authorised quality lead review it against product instructions and contract. Record acceptance, rejection or other action with rationale in writing.

A logger alarm is a measurement event; a product-use decision is a separate quality assessment.

Verify the event evidence first

Check raw file, device ID, calibration status, sensor location, time zone and sampling interval. Match the trace to timestamped notes for door openings, transfers, failures or receipt.

Segregate the lot from usable stock during review. Bound where and when the event began using the resolution of the records; do not fill unknown intervals with guesses.

Give the authorised quality lead the product instructions, specification and buyer procedure. Keep the excursion, review and reasoned product disposition in separate record fields.
