Weight or volume alone is not the right allocation key for every mixed load; define reporting purpose and boundary first.

Collect load data. For each trip, obtain each customer's weight, volume, pallet or item count, and leg information.

Mark measured values, carrier documents and estimates separately; show empty legs according to the boundary decision.

Justify the key

Review which vehicle capacity is constrained and which load data represents that use.

If the applicable methodology requires another allocation rule, follow it and cite the technical basis.

Make reports comparable

Include formula, data source, period and exceptions. Apply the same method consistently across customers and periods.

When the key changes, recalculate prior periods or explain why comparison is limited.

Do not present weight-versus-volume choice as a universal rule; support it with data and methodology.
