The formula sits in Article 7 of the Turkish regulation on loading dimensions, weighing and dimensional measurement tolerances: the tolerance is at most 3.75% of the maximum weight plus 500 kg. The fixed 500 kg makes up most of the margin on a small vehicle, so a 3.5 tonne van gets more than three times the proportional margin of a 40 tonne combination.
| Maximum weight | Tolerance | Fine base | Margin as a share |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3,500 kg | 631 kg | 4,131 kg | 18.0% |
| 7,500 kg | 781 kg | 8,281 kg | 10.4% |
| 18,000 kg | 1,175 kg | 19,175 kg | 6.5% |
| 40,000 kg | 2,000 kg | 42,000 kg | 5.0% |
Article 65 of the law was amended by Law 7574 of 12 February 2026. For exceeding the maximum laden weight, the operator and the consignor are each fined 10,000 TL up to 10% over, 20,000 TL up to 15%, 30,000 TL up to 20%, 40,000 TL up to 25% and 60,000 TL beyond that. Under Article 7(2) of the regulation, these percentages are calculated on the fine base in the table.
Which cost headings weight is calculated alongside is gathered on the cost per trip calculation page.
