The law fines an excess over the maximum laden weight (weighing tolerances are set separately in the regulation); the fine rises by bracket with the size of the excess and is applied to the operator and the sender separately.
| Excess | Administrative fine |
|---|---|
| Up to 10% | 10,000 TL |
| Up to 15% | 20,000 TL |
| Up to 20% | 30,000 TL |
| Up to 25% | 40,000 TL |
| Above 25% | 60,000 TL |
If the excess passes 20 per cent, the vehicle also may not continue until the excess load is brought into conformity. On a light vehicle the threshold is close: for a vehicle with a maximum laden weight of 3,500 kg the 20 per cent threshold is 4,200 kg, 700 kg above the registered figure; for a 7,500 kg vehicle it is 9,000 kg and for an 18,000 kg vehicle 21,600 kg.
Where managing temperature risk along the route begins is looked at separately under the cold chain on store deliveries.
Overload is not the only violation that stops a vehicle. The second paragraph says vehicles used in breach of subparagraphs (d) to (l) may not continue until the conditions are met; loads outside the gauge, failure to lash and secure, and loading that upsets the balance are on that list. A vehicle that passes a weight and dimension control point without entering is fined 60,000 TL. A foreign-plated vehicle may not leave the country until fines are collected.
