A container in repair is unavailable to the fleet. Record when it enters repair and when it is usable again; open job count alone does not show capacity tied up.

The calculation

Count each container's repair days over defined dates and sum them. Report container-days with the calendar period used.

Where the waiting happens

Parts wait: the job is open but work has not started.

Queue wait: the team has not started the work.

Decision wait: authorization for repair or another action is pending.

Closure wait: work is done but the container has not returned to inventory or the record remains open.

Why separate the four

Count reasons separately: parts, scheduling, decisions and records may have different owners. Define categories to match the site's workflow.

Divide the total by fleet size for a period-level per-container measure. It compares capacity tied up; it does not set spare purchasing by itself.

Monthly follow-up

Report repairs opened, closed and container-days each month. Since jobs can open and close in different months, these counts are not a simple balance.
