How to handle a container unloaded at the wrong stop

Stabilise the situation, compare container ID with the route list, and set aside opened or transferred goods for review.

Short answer

Pause handover and match container ID and stop label to the route sheet. Record whether the lid was opened, goods unloaded and who had access. Do not move an untouched closed load onward until it is verified; separate opened or transferred goods and await the quality owner's decision under local procedure.

When the wrong container is spotted, pause product movement and handover. Compare its ID and stop code with the route sheet to identify the correct load; do not rely on appearance or memory.

Record time, lid or seal status, whether goods were removed, consignee access and relevant lot number. Add a photo where appropriate and notify the dispatch owner promptly.

Redirect a closed, untouched load under the SOP only after identity is verified. Keep opened, transferred or shown goods separate; leave reloading or release decisions to the quality owner.
